Icebreaker: Tells us about something for which you are thankful.

Read Colossians 1:3-8

What is Paul thankful for? Why is hearing about Jesus’ work in someone else’s life so encouraging? What does Paul mean when he says the gospel is bearing fruit?  Do you see the gospel bearing fruit in your own life? How so?

Paul mentions Epaphras in this passage.  Epaphras was the person who started the church in Colossae. Epaphras told these believers about Jesus. Who told you about Jesus?  Tell us about that experience.  Who are you telling about Jesus?

Read Colossians 1:9-14

Paul is praying that God would fill the people with wisdom and understanding.  Where does this wisdom and understanding come from? What is the result of that?  How can we encourage one another to live a life that pleases God and bear fruit in every good work?

What does Paul mean when he says that God “qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people”?  How can we share the good news of this inheritance?

Why is it important for us to pray for other believers and non believers? Who can you be praying for? How is it that we can receive wisdom through prayer?

How can we pray for each other this week?
